Free Music Friday: Episode XXV
Happy Friday, Buffalo! I know it's been a few weeks and I shouldn't have left you, but between being stuck under 6 feet of snow and the holidays, there just wasn't a whole lot of time for free music. Blasphemous, right? I know. But worry not, as we are back on our free music grind just in time for this silver edition of FMF. DJM Trio - Cave Art
Cave Art is an engrossing blend of live covers from the DJM trio headed by Dominic J Marshall. The album covers hip hop and experimental electronic music from the likes of Jaylib, Flying Lotus, MF DOOM, 9th Wonder, and many other contemporary artists. A one of a kind concept and an amazing product: If you're a hip hop or jazz head you definitely want to check this out.
The Stuyvesants - Fine
A nice collection of instrumentals featuring a lot of late 80's, early 90's R&B samples. Excellent use of vocal sampling using complete phrases and sometimes even entire choruses as opposed to single words gives the Stuyvesants a unique sound. Check it out.
R.F.C. feat. Dom Kennedy - Malverde
Smoke Dza's RFC music crew came together with west coast emcee, Dom Kennedy to release this banger, an homage to Jesus Malverde - a mustachioed bandit from Mexico who, as legend has it, would steal from the rich and give to the poor and is apparently now revered by drug cartels throughout the country.
Swarvy - SCOTCH
Swarvy links with bassist Jerry Thompson III and band mate Ryan McKenney to compose "SCOTCH," his first official release of original, sample-free music. Channeling the grooves and moods of 70s jazz and funk, Swarvy shapes the raw instrumentation with modern production techniques to make an album that sounds distantly familiar, yet still new and unique at the same time.
