Editor's Picks - This Week's Best Bets | November 21-27

Looking for ways to Give Thanks? Monday, Nov 21 is the last day to donate a turkey to the Buffalo Mission's Turkey Express, and Tuesday, Nov 22 is the last day to donate non-perishables to Rock Out Hunger. The Turkey Trot Give Back runs through Nov 30.

Wednesday is "Bar Night." Choose your venue and enjoy. Or stay home and stuff the bird. Once the Big Feast is over and the leftovers are properly stored, you'll need to find things to do and places to go with friends and family in town for the holiday. Why not start at the Albright-Knox for a peek at Picasso: The Artist and his Models, it's a fabulous exhibit. If they're into choo-choo's and local history, Friday is Train Day at the Buffalo History Museum. Unless, of course, you prefer to battle the crowds at the Mall.

If books are more their thing, hit the History Museum on Saturday for the annual Local Author Signing event. More than 60 local authors will be signing their books, and Museum admission is free! Continue shopping locally at the Downtown Buffalo Shop Small Saturday, which includes the Shops @ the Market Arcade. You can also Shop Small at Tommyrotter Distillery. Shop even smaller at Women's Gifts at Asbury Hall or smaller yet at the Arts & Crafts Sale at St. Mark School.

End your Saturday at the World's Largest Disco - if you have tickets. If you can't get your disco on, kick off the Season at Shea's, where Neglia Ballet will perform the holiday perennial The Nutcracker, or at the Lancaster Opera House for the far less traditional Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical.

If you need to nurture the Christmas spirit so soon after Turkey Day, consider a drive through the Festival of Lights at the Hamburg Fairgrounds or head to Christmas in Ellicottville. Looking for even more Christmas for the little ones? There's the unique Christmasville Fire Truck Parade in Lancaster, or consider a ride on the Polar Express.

Whew! How about we adopt the Canadian custom of celebrating Thanksgiving in October? There is just too little time between Giving Thanks and Giving Gifts each year.
