Editor's Picks - This Week's Best Bets | February 15 - 19

If you failed to celebrate Valentine's Day sufficiently on the 14th, don't despair. A couple of unorthodox opportunities are coming up later this week.

Consider Sexy Wheel, Squeaky Wheel's Anti-Valentine's Erotica Show, a chill screening of short films on Friday night that celebrate everything Hallmark cards are not, followed by an After Party at Dreamland. Or Cupid's Undie Run, a "brief" well-lubricated run in your undies at Big Ditch on Saturday afternoon. A benefit for the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

This week is your last chance to catch Picasso: The Artist and his Models exhibit at the Albright-Knox. Remember, the Gallery is staying open late on Thursdays to help make sure you don't miss it. This remarkable exhibit closes Friday. Opening on Friday at the Lancaster Opera House is Moon Over Buffalo. It's about a dysfunctional theater troupe performing at the Erlanger Theater in 1953. Cool.

Two ways to expand your horizons and get civically engaged are happening today. WNY women influencers and thought-leaders will share their wisdom and skills at The Women in Leadership Conference at the Paul Maguire Club at New Era Field from Noon to 4:00pm. And the fascinating American Politics & Community Today series starts tonight at the TR Site. Explore what it means to be an American in the 21st century.

Hope your Saturday is wide open. Good luck choosing between the Winter Blues Ice Crawl in Clarence and 42 North's 1st Annual Brewski (that's brew + ski) at Knox Farm in East Aurora. Follow either of these events up with some tunes. We recommend Sandman at the Seneca Queen in NIagara Falls (Ontario - right across the river). It's the only Metallica Sanctioned Tribute band. Or the Dredneks CD Release Show at the Evening Star on Niagara Falls Blvd. on this side of the border.

Spend Sunday afternoon at the Kulig Polish Winter Festival at Chestnut Ridge feasting on Polish folk music, Polish food and Polish beverages (read beer). Sleigh rides and other winter fun activities are snow-dependent (hey, that's been a problem this winter...) Buffalo's Hip Hop Fest starts at 7:00pm at Mohawk Place.

Another week with way too much to see and do in the Queen City. Who says everything happens during the summer "festival season?"
