Enjoying the World Cup? Make It Better With a Caipirinha!

We sure hope everyone out there is enjoying a World Cup for the ages. Even if you’re not a huge soccer fan, you must have found something to like. There have been goals aplenty, more upsets than March Madness, and some rock-solid play from our boys in red, white, and blue.

If you plan on watching the United States battle Germany this Thursday and try to wrap up their spot in the knockout rounds, we suggest you do it with a little bit of Brazilian flair to properly honor the proceedings. And what better way to do that than to whip up a Caipirinha or two (or six)?

“What is a Caipirinha?” you may be asking. Well, long story short, it’s the national cocktail of Brazil and it tastes like happiness.

The Caipirinha is made by muddling lime, sugar, and Cachaça (sugar cane hard liquor), and then pouring the resulting concoction over some ice in a rocks glass. Here are some more specific instructions:

Take a good size lime, cut it into 8 wedges, and place 4 wedges in a rocks glass. Add two teaspoons of sugar, mash the lime and sugar with a muddler for 15 seconds, and add crushed ice up to the rim of the glass. Add two ounces of Cachaça, stir thoroughly, and garnish with a lime wedge. If you’d like to mellow things out a bit, feel free to add some sparkling water.

We promise, this is one cocktail that you’re sure to love. So get the supplies you need to make yours and get ready to cheer on Clint Dempsey and the rest of the Stars and Stripes at noon this Thursday!
